Overall impression: like the book, not a necessary prequel but well done anyway, and has my respect in both cases for not trying to tell the same story as before but through the shift of perspective and central character trying something genuinely new. When I watched The Hunger Games, I hadn't read the trilogy of novels, which I find is the better way of watching a film based on a book, because you're not conscious of anything that isn't there, you only focus on what's there, and take the story as given (for good or ill).
